Fasting: From Foolishness

In the movie, “Sixth Sense,” the young boy says, “I see dead people and they don’t even know they are dead.”  I saw a poster that picks up on this theme and it says, “I see stupid people and they don’t even know they are stupid.

Like beauty, stupid is in the eye of the beholder.  Quite frankly, I think ice fishing is stupid, but there are thousands who would disagree with me.

We are called to fast from foolishness and to seek wisdom.  James (Chapter 1, NRSV) says, “If any of you is lacking in wisdom, ask God, who gives to all generously and ungrudgingly, and it will be given you.”  This is a prayer with a definite and clear promise.  There is no wisdom apart from God and if we seek God’s wisdom it will be granted.

Wisdom is the call to see through the Spirit’s discernment, that which is of God and that which is of Satan.  Each day my prayers include this petition, “God, protect me from myself.  levitra prescription assistance Lead me to follow You.”

Fast from foolishness and seek wisdom.
