Praying the Word of God leads one to the foot of the Cross. Praying the Word leads us to deeply appreciate the Savior’s love in giving Himself on the Cross. The transformative change takes place in our lives as the Word of God leads us to see how the Spirit shapes and molds us to be all that God created us to be.
But, we are taken to the cross. We are taken to the greatest love ever known. The Lenten journey leads us to the place where the transformative power of Christ leads us to a new reality that brings freedom and joy.
Thomas Merton writes: “We must make the choices that enable us to fulfill the deepest capacities of our real selves.” The power to make these choices is from the Holy Spirit working in and through the Word. The prayer of the Lenten journey gives us the space to become our real selves…children of God.
