Spiritual Direction
Spiritual Direction is an opportunity to sit with a spiritual friend or guide who accompanies an individual or group on the spiritual journey. The Spiritual Director helps one listen and discern the call of God in the moment. A Spiritual Director can help you experience a deeper prayer journey and can lead you to submit to the work of God in your life. Spiritual Direction is a time of discernment grounded in the Word of God and revealed by the Holy Spirit as spiritual companions join in a time of contemplative prayer to know the mind of Christ. Spiritual Direction is helpful in each step of the Christian journey but is particularly helpful in times of transition.
In Invitation to a Journey: A Road Map for Spiritual Formation by M. Robert Mulholland, Jr. offers a definition of Spiritual Formation as “a process of being conformed to the image of Christ for the sake of others.”
Spiritual direction sessions are normally 50 minutes in length and include times for silence, times for prayer and times for discernment. Spiritual direction sessions can be one-on-one or in a group setting of 6-8 people. A spiritual direction retreat can also be scheduled.
